Summer Learning Adventure Camps
Summer Learning Adventure Camps 2008
Accredited by the American Camp Association
Dear Parents,
We're gearing up for another fun and exciting summer at Birch Aquarium
at Scripps! We take pride in offering high-quality educational programs
for children of all ages and we hope that your kids will join us for
lots of excitement, exploration, and ocean adventures.
This year we have made some important changes to our Summer Learning
Adventure Camps, with the biggest news being that we are now accredited
through the American Camp Association. This nationally recognized
accreditation ensures that our programs meet quality standards and that
we committed ourselves to providing a safe and nurturing environment
for our campers.
Based on parent feedback, this year we are also excited to offer camps
for various age groups on the same days and times so that younger and
older children can attend their respective camps on the same day. We
hope this will create more opportunities for members of your family,
young and old, to attend camp this summer.

Why Is American Camp Association (ACA) Accreditation Important?
ACA accreditation means that Birch Aquarium at Scripps underwent a
thorough review of its operation by the American Camp Association for
compliance with up to 300 health, safety, and program quality standards
from staff qualifications and training to emergency management. ACA
collaborates with experts from the American Academy of Pediatrics, the
American Red Cross, and other youth-serving agencies to assure that
current practices at our accredited camp reflect the most up-to-date,
research-based standards in camp operation.
By enrolling your child in our ACA-accredited camp, you can be assured that it provides:
- Healthy, developmentally-appropriate activities and learning experiences
- Discovery through experiential education
- Caring, competent role models
- Service to the community and the environment
- Opportunities for leadership and personal growth
