Adopt-A-Fish   New!

Why Adopt?

As the public exploration center for world-renowned Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC San Diego, Birch Aquarium is dedicated to preserving marine life. To keep our 5,000+ fishes and invertebrates thriving, we spend almost a million dollars every year for food, care and maintenance. Our aquarists even work on holidays to maintain water quality, control disease, and especially provide specialized TLC each of our 380 species has its own particular needs and dietary requirements. By adopting one today, you too can be part of the team that provides essential care to these special ocean inhabitants!

Who Can Adopt?

Children, grandparents, birthday party friends, school classes, community groups... anyone who wants to share in the responsibility of helping sea life.

Give the Gift of Caring!

Surprise loved ones with the gift of an adoption. Adopt-A-Fish for family and friends!

Adoptions are valid for a year in prices ranging from $100 to $1,000 (tax-deductible), depending on the species' care and feeding needs.

Your support also helps the aquarium maintain successful breeding programs (sea horses, corals, and more), which help aquariums around the world reduce the need to collect in the wild.
